Travelling South Africa
July 25th — August 19th — 25 days
By Marzia Svaluto

Twenty-first day 14th August: Cape Town-Karoo N.P. km 535
We left from Cape town for Karoo N.P. (N1). Stopped at Stellenbosh (Unesco heritage) with old white houses in dutch style.
Arrived at Karoo reservetion@parks-sa.co.za, we toured around before arriving at the reception of the park. The people at the reception wer very nice and they explained that there are no black rhino in the park because in this period they don’t have enough grass to eat.
The family units are very nice and very large with well-equipped kitchens. We drank tea on the terrace. Dinner a la carte in the restaurant of the park.

Twenty-second day 15th August: Karoo N.P.-Bloemfontein km 583
After breakfast we had time for a tour in this little but beautiful park. After that we took the N1 to Bloemfontein. Along the way we admired the tremendous desert landscape. We booked a room at the Hobbit Boutique Hotel hobbit@intekom.co.za www.hobbit.co.za a hotel inspired by Tolkien who lived here for the first years of his life. The name of the rooms are from characters of The Lord of the Rings and are furnished with antiques. An excellent dinner was served in dining room with fireplace.

Twenty-third day 16th August: Bloemfontein-Golden Gate N.P.-Clarens km 429
We left the town to go to Clarens (N2-N5), we arrived and we left our luggage at B&B Nkwe’s Retreat moulster@efs.co.za. We had time to visit the Golden Gate. This park includes the Maluti mountains. You can observe the sandstone walls in ochre yellow which turn red at sunset.
Dinner at the Red Mountains where they cook a very good wildebeest!

Twenty-fourth day 17th August: Clarens-Royal Natal-Cathedral Peak-Clarens km 438
We crossed the Golden Gate again to go to the Royal Natal. Just near the entrance you walk 20 minutes to see the San graffito. The visit is guided in order to conserve the graffiti. We went on to visit the Amphitheatre which characterizes the park. We had a pic-nic near a little lake. We went on to Cathdral Peak but the view was not very good because of the presence of the hotel. Came back to Clarens and had dinner at Clementines, a very good restaurant.

Twenty-fifth day 18th August: Clarens-Johannesburg Int.Airport km 379
Final shopping and then departure to the International Airport. We dropped off the car and we came back to Italy which was as hot as when we had left it!
