July 25th — August 19th — 25 days
By Marzia Svaluto

First day 25th July: Departure to Madrid with Iberia flight and then to Johannesburg the same day around 10 pm.

Second day 26th July: Johannesburg-Lydenburg km 297
Arrive at Johannesburg airport on time to pick up our beautiful Laguna Renault. We asked for the permit for Swaziland and Lesotho. As soon as we left the airport we took N12 for Witbank then N4 until Belfast and then R540 for Lydenburg. We reached our cosy B&B The Manor Guest House manorgh@intekom.co.za www.lydenburgmanorhouse.com that we booked from Italy. Dinner was very good served in a living room with a warm fireplace.

Third day 27th July: Lydenburg-Tzaneen km 315
After a big breakfast we take read R36 and than R533 to Pilgrim Rest, a little town near an old goldmine which closed in 1972 and today is a national monument. Buildings had been restored in 1800s style. Old homes are now shops, restaurants and little hotels. We finished the visit and we took the R532 which goes through the Blyde River Canyon park. Along the way, we stopped to see panoramic points: the pinnacle, God’s Window, and after a short walk you can reach the Rain Forest with a beautiful view. Don’t miss the stop at Three Rondavels , the place is really unique. After lunch we took road R36. Before arriving at Tzaneen, we stopped at Echo Caves created by an underground river. Arrival in the dark at B&B mwbisset@mweb.co.za. The place is sorronded by tea cultivations. Mr and Mrs Bisset are very nice people and they cooked the best dinner we had during our holiday.

Fourth day 28th July: Tzaneen- Kruger Park (Lodge Olifants) km 239
After a big breakfast as usual in South Africa we left for Kruger Park from Phalaborwa Gate where you have to show your booking for the lodge that we booked from Italy reservetion@parks-sa.co.za.
As soon as we entered the park we started to see: elephants, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, hippopotamus and African fish eagles with white neck. We had our lunch near a pool where we saw a lot of animals. The road to reach the lodge is asphalted and has panoramic views. We got to the lodge and before dinner we has time to enjoy the fantastic view from the terrace of the lodge!
