Eleventh
day 4th August: St.Lucia-Fanies Island-Cape Vidal-St.Lucia
Km 228
In the morning visited Fanies Island area on the estuary
and then to Cape Vidal, the road was very beautiful. There
is tropical vegetation and you can also see animals.
When we arrived on the beautiful beach we discovered that
a lot of fishermen arrived on the beach with their 4x4s
and this spoilt the landscape. One just has to walk 200
meters to find a nice view. Pic-niced near the beach and
than came back to ST. Lucia. In the afternoon cruise on
the estuary, we saw a lot of hippopotamus and crocodiles!
Twelfth
day 5th August: St.Lucia-Hluhluwe Umflozi-St.Lucia
km 248
We decided to visit Umflozi Park. In this little park you
have more chances to see predators because the area is not
as big as the Kruger! In fact we saw a group of lions!
Despite the rain we were really satisfied when we arrived
at the lodge.
Dinner at "The Zulu and I" where you can try crocodile
and impala.
Thirteenth
day 6th August: St.Lucia-Underberg km 522
We took the N2 to Durban where we stopped in the town to
see the mosque and Indian area but there was nothing special
to see. Then, taking theN3 and R617, we reached Underberg.
The area is really good. Arrival at Elgin Cottage. jeannine@futurnet.co.za
www.elginholidayfarm.co.za.
Fourteenth
day 7th August: Underberg-Sani Pass-Underberg
Departure to Sani Pass with a organized tour because the
road is untarred and you can only go with 4-wheel drive
car. The landscape was really really amazing! The border
with Lesotho is an outpost, but the people are very kind.
Then we arrived at Sani Top Chalet - the highest pub in
Africa. We also visited a poor village where we tasted the
local beer.
Back to Elgin Cottage for dinner.
Fifteenth
day 8th August: Underberg-Coffee Bay km 391
Departure to Coffee Bay on the Wild Coast (R617-N2 from
Kokstad and then to Coffee Bay). The landscape before the
coast is really good, you can see villages with the traditional
round houses. Coffee Bay is a nice place with a long beach
and high cliffs where you can have a walk. We slept at Ocean
View Hotel. oceanview@coffeebay.co.za
www.oceanview.co.za
where the owners organized a Xhosa dance and at the end
a choir sang the national anthem.
Sixteenth
day 9th August: Coffee Bay-Jeffreys Bay km 651
Departure very early via N2 and then R72, a very beautiudl
road which skirts the Sunshine Coast. The villages are protected
by the lagoons. Lunch at Port Alfred and then R72 and N2
to Jeffreys bay. We had time also for a walk on the beach
at sunset. We slept at A1 Kynaston b&b a1kynaston@xsinet.co.za
from where you can enjoy the view of the bay.
We had a very good dinner at "the Breakerest"
- very good fish and South African wine.
